Today I want to talk about how a sitemap can help your seo and internet marketing efforts.
There are 2 types of site maps
- XML - XML sitemap's are for Search Engines
- HTML - HTML sitemap's are for real people
An xml sitemap is used to feed search engines a list of all the pages in your website. This helps them index your content faster and increases the probability that your web pages will be stored in Google's database of web sites.
The html sitemap serves two purposes. First it is good to have one for users who know what they are looking for. That being said, most people won't look at your sitemap.
The main reason you want an html sitemap is because it provides an incoming link to your seo pages.
If you are following our SEO strategy you'll be making seo pages that are targeted to a specific keyword. The sitemap is a place to tie all these pages that are normally not linked into your site, which helps them get indexed into search engines quicker.
If a page has no links, it can't be found. By linking all your pages in a sitemap, you can help search engines find them all.
