Search Engine Optimization
[06/01/2008]
The results from last months changes all positive, more visitors, more pages per visit and more time spent on site.
This is an indication that the SEO is working and that the people visiting the website are highly targeted. They are staying to read a couple pages.
Keyword based search engine traffic is up with many new keywords bringing in targeted visitors.
This could be expected since I've been creating 2-3 unique pages per week.
My search marketing expert Nathan showed me a good trick to see how many from my search engine optimized web site are being indexed in Google.
06/01/2008 - site:www.websitedesignportland.com = 915 pages.
I will now report this every month. This means that Google is aware of 915 pages of content in my web site. The majority of this is from my dynamic keyword pages that [we talked about this in the first episode 04/01/2008]. I have around 40 static content pages.
The dynamic keyword pages are time consuming, but as I said in the first blog, I think this can work and I think it will be worth it. I've already seen a return on the first 20 hours that I initially spent on the dynamic keyword pages. This is with less that 15% of the text built out. Once content is written for all the pages, I expect to see thousands of pages in google, waiting for someone to find them, and call me.
I thought it might be nice to look over the last quarter, month by month, so here are the analytic screen shots from the last three months.
February Vs. March
March Vs. April
April Vs. May

*** Its important to notice on the graph that the scale changed for May, before we were getting 5-10 visitors a day, now we are averaging 10-20. ***
The main thing to be looking at here is visits and page views.
In the next episode I'm going to be re-arranging my charts so that at a glace they will be more informative. The keywords and referring sites list are interesting, but not so much when you are comparing date ranges, unless you are trying to figure out if you were removed from someone else's site and are no longer receiving referrals.
Notice the big spike towards the end of the month? I posted a couple craig's list ads.
I didn't realize what a good market place craig's list is for bringing people to your website. So now I post a semi unique ad to craig's list every morning. I've got about 10 written that I just rotate through.
So for this month (June) I'm going to start running AdWords campaigns. My goal is to bring targeted people to my website for as cheap as possible.
