Portland Web Design SEO Experiment

Portland Web Design is probably the most competitive search phrase that is directly relevant to AuraDev.com. Sure we can completely own the smaller markets, such as all the cities between Wilsonville and Portland, but the amount of people searching for web design in those cities isn't all that great, and I believe that most people looking for web design search for "Portland Web Design" regardless of if they want to someone local or not. To go from Wilsonville to Portland is only 15 min anyway if there is no I-5 traffic.

For the last couple months I've been trying to rank higher on Portland Web Design. A while ago I made the decision to not target portland web design at all.

I don't like driving and figured there would be enough business in Wilsonville, Tualatin, Tigard and Lake Oswego. I don't really even want to work in Beaverton because I don't like to drive, but its a good excuse to go to my favorite restaurant, Swagat, Uwajimaya for asian groceries and the Indian food store and Pho place that are right next to each other in a hole in the wall strip mall near 217 an 99w. So to my Beaverton and Tigard clients, now you know why I always schedule meetings at 11am or 4pm.

Looking back, that was stupid, because any traffic is good traffic, since one of the ways Google ranks your site is by traffic. Targeted or not, there is something to be said about getting hundreds of people to your site per day, and given two similar website's, the one with more traffic will get the higher ranking under portland web design.

I'm not sure if it is going to be be possible to get number 1 on portland web design. There are a few competitors that are national business. One had 3000 inbound links, which means that they have made over 3000 web sites.

Anyway's in true seo experiment style, I will now publish my ranking for portland web design on a monthly basis so here we go.

Over the last month we launched a couple new sites with Portland Web Design in the credits link, as well as added a blog where we write about past projects. This has seemed to boost our links a litle bit, but we are still on the third page for the term portland web design.

7/29/2008 AuraDev is currently the #29 site for the term "Portland Web Design" but hey, at least I'm on the 2nd page. Anything less that that and you'll be lucky to get any traffic at all. Last month Portland Web Design brought in a whopping 2 visitors.
